I am saddened to hear of this story. I am friends with a girl named Kimberly who knew Kristen well. She has told me what a wonderful person she is and how she prays for her return. Be strong, and have faith in god and all the other people out there helping in this effort. I will keep Kristen and your family in my thoughts and prayers in hope that she return to you safely soon. :)

What a beautiful person! I know I cannot say anything to ease the pain your going through, but I pray for god to touch you and take away some of the pain & to make you strong to continue or search for your daughter, and also for the lord to sit beside you a bedtime and comfort you for a good nights sleep. I will pray for the angles to watch over her. Take Care, Shelley

Lisa and I met your family in front of Louis' Restaurant near the Cliff House maybe a few months after Kristen disappeared. I cannot even begin to tell you how often we have thought of your family and prayed for you folks over the passing years. We love to visit Sutro Heights and the Sutro Baths area and each time we visit we stop and wonder what ever happened to you folks. We are so very sorry that Kristen hasn't been found. I was looking around on the Web for something else and I found this website that told me your sister & daughter was still missing. I know there is nothing I can do or say to help you and that makes me feel so weak and helpless for you. I grieve for you and my wife will surely cry for you when she hears that Kristen is still missing after all of these years. I pray to God for this young lady to be found, safe I'd hope, and that peace could come to your hearts.

I lost a loved one recently and although he is gone forever, and Kristen is not, I have found great comfort in the following excerpt from a poem: ...if you should gorget me for a whild and afterwards remember, do not grieve; For if the darkness and corruption leave a vestige of the thought that once I had, better by far you should forget and smile, than that you should remember and be sad. Remember this poem during the holidays, and remember, it's ok to laugh still, do not feel guilty. That's what stuck with me. Happy Holidays to the Modafferi's and friends.

This, and this alone, is why lawbreakers ought to be punished: to authenticate as good, and to encourage as useful, law-abiding behavior. I found your website while browsing CNN. Although I live in a small town in Arkansas, I work in a major retail store that has a missing children's board at the front door. I will print the missing poster of Kristin and take it to work with me tomorrow ansd put it on the board. Even though we are miles away it cannot hurt. You never know what could happen, I too have a daughter that left home for college in a big city. I thank god everyday for her safety . I cannot imagine the pain you must go through everyday. My thoughts and prayers are with you. God bless Kristin.

I am ashamed to admit that this is the first I have heard of Kristen's disappearance. It pains me deeply that she is missing. Although I don't know your daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Modafferi, I feel as though a member of my own family is missing. In a since, she is family. She was a member of the WOLFPACK. Students at NCSU stick together through thick and thin. IF there is anything I can do around campus to help out, please do not hesitate to let me know! I am here for you guys through it all. Dear Modafferis: I wrote to you last year to offer my prayers and hopes for your precious daughter. I had no idea you had a website until my own daughter who works and lives in Durham contacted me about it. She was a Morehead Scholar at UNC, and at the time of Kristen's disappearance was also participating in internships far from home. I put the original newspaper articles about Kristen in my Bible, and they remain there, along with my prayers for her safe return to her loving family. I am happy to order two of the cookbooks, and plan to find another way to contribute to your search as well. Our departure from North Carolina after 18 years in 1998 was made even sadder by Kristen's disappearance, especially since we had a daughter at the time who was coming and going to parts unknown. We could empathize at the deepest levels and struggled not to interfere with our daughter's travels. She worked at the Hewlett Foundation in Palo Alto, CA. the summer of 1997 after having driven cross-country by herself. It was something she really wanted to do, and so her Dad gave her a cell phone and we more or less "tracked" her all the way, coming and going. I was pleased to see your encouragement to other families not to shy away from the wonderful opportunities that scholarships offer our young people. Kristen will be pleased with your bravery and commitment to all young people who have dreams and crave adventure. Please know that our entire family continues to pray and wait for that breaking news for Kristen's safe return. I am also going to contact our representatives here in Tenn. and ask for their support for Kristen's Law. Remember always that our good God is with her from moment to moment. With love and heartfelt hope, Carolyn Hitchcock and Family

"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress:my God:in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers and under his wings shalt thou trust:his truth shall be they shield and buckler. Though shalt not be afraid for the terror by night;nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor the the pestilence that walketh in darkness;nor for the destruction that wasteth at nooday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee,to keep thee in all thy ways. For he shall give his angles charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foor against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and the adder:the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation."-PSALMS 91 Father God, I plead the precious blood of Jesus over this family and their daughter. I ask your blessings upon them, and may they know the peace that paseth all understanding, the peace that comes from only your son Jesus.Holy Spirit come in like a mighty rushing wind and cause this search to move swiftly with no more delay. Father we praise you and honor you and thank you for hearing our prayers.

I can not even imagine how you feel right now. All i can say is that i will be praying for you. I will hold your family in my thoughts & prayers and with God help, Kristen will come home safety. I know this is your dream and so many individuals around the world. I am so sorry that things like this happen I have a 14-year-old daughter, I live every day with the fear one day I can get a call, and my child could be missing. Still, we must let them go to school, walk alone, be at home alone, we shouldn’t have to make our children feel like they are living in a prison to keep them safe. Bob and Family-Just read your letter to the Wasington Post Sunday 7/22/2001. With all the hoopla surrounding the fate of Chandra Levy other missing people such as Kristen, Amy Bradley, Kristin Smart, Suzanne Lyall are pushed to the bottom of the pile. Not to mention the thousands that need to be in the pile, but never make it due to lack of money, Internet knowledge, etc. But as you iterated in your letter maybe Chandra's case can wake the country and the world up to this continuing series of tragedies called abductions. God bless your continuing efforts.

It makes me sad to see the pain your family has been in during the fight to find Kristin. I am a young woman who travels solo often for work and I am so careful about who I speak to or what I say. I was out for a walk and noticed a man watching me and sprinted to my hotel, maybe hyper maybe not. Your stories make me even more cautious and if there is one thing you are doing, it is making more people more aware that this can happen to them. I really wish I could be a part of a missing persons campaign for the midwest region. My heart goes out to you. And I send you my prayers and strength. Regards from Minnesota

I admire all that you have done in searching for your daughter. I have tried my best to get the word out about her disappearance. In the midst of all the focus on the missing intern, I can't help but think of all the other parents and loved ones in the world that have unsolved cases of their own. I pray for you and I hope that you will very soon have answers that are long overdue. Godspeed, Ginny

As a parent, my heart goes out to you. I too lost a daughter. My loss was under different circumstances. She died 22 yrs. ago on 7/15, and would be the same age as Kristen. I have missed her every day of my life since she died. But at least I'm aware of her where-abouts. I pray that Kristen will be found alive and well, soon. May God Bless your family!!

As a parent, my heart goes out to the Modafferi family, and I will include Kristen in my prayers for her safe return. In Feb. 2000, 9-year old Asha Degree was reported missing from Shelby, NC where I live. I became part of a volunteer search effort, and her story was told on TV's "America's Most Wanted", but unfortunately she is still missing. Hopefully both Kristen and Asha will be found one day. Never give up hope.

Being from the Charlotte area and having just returned from a visit to San Francisco, I can only imagine how excited and in awe Kristin was to be in such a beautiful area with her whole life ahead of her. There is also the illusion of safety as you walk to place to place there but the world can be a cruel place. I think the worse thing for a parent is the not knowing what happened. I pray for Kristin's safe return, and if that is not possible, I pray you find what happened so that you may find the closure your hearts need. God Bless you.

Hello, Kristen's website is a link on my sister Suzanne Lyall's site. She has been missing since 3/98. I have a personal appreciation for the pain your family lives with. I have found over time, that I no longer take things for granted, and I appreciate the little things in life. I pray every day for answers that will provide the closure that we so desperately need. I pray that those answers will bring our loved ones back to us. I sometimes fear that we may never know... I also at times fear that we will. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Kristen as well. Hi,I wanted to share my testimony with people.I was 7 years old when i got baptized.I knew that Jesus was real, but never thought he could love me because I was so bad.I struggled through life after that running away from God,I even made myself believe that I didn't need him.The enemy satan had me believing so many lies. I would run any time a christian would come around, I'm very ashamed of this now but because of it know that my life is nothing with out God.If your running from God,he doesn't want you running from him,but to him.He knows that you are not perfect, only he is.No matter what it is your struggling through or with today, theres only one answer to help you, and so often we run from the very one that wants to be there for us.The world would have you believe there is no God, this is a lie, there is a God, and he wants to be there for you,he's the only true friend that you will ever have,I even believed I didn't need other christians, this is a lie to,you always need someone else,I watch people and situations today, and see God being taken from schools, from work, people saying that God doesn't belong here, but thats a lie God belongs here and every where, in every part of our life. I'll be honest,he;s the only answer to any thing, and it is so easy for us to forget it,I need reminding all the time. I hear people saying whats happening to our world, well the world is trying to push God out of it.The Kids these days and all times so badly need to know Jesus, because the world has been getting discouraged,He is such a loving and wonderful God,I'll tell you that if your hurting there is hope.Jesus.I ask you that if you donot know Jesus as your saviour you would ask him in your heart right now before it's too late.

I will be visiting San Francisco in the near future and would be happy to assist the search in any way I can while I'm there. Thanks.

You've probably heard this a million times, but I am deeply sorry for your what has happened to your family,or most importantly, your beautiful daughter. I am 18 years old and cannot understand why or how someone can harm another human being. They must truly be an animal. Why does this happen to our youth? our brothers?our sisters? our mothers or fathers? our future? With my greatest sympathy and prayers, I hope that your family will come up with a way to be strong and have faith that perhaps someday Kristin will come home, or you will join her wherever she may be,which Im sure is a place with constant peace and tranquility.

She is so beautiful! I have lost a son to the spiritual realm, so I know the pain of your loss. Surrounding evidence in his death makes me unsure of the way he died, which is disturbing in itself. I hope Kristen is alive and you will see her again soon physically - if not she is in a better place than we are and you can keep her spirit alive in your loving memories.

I had classes with Allison in junior high school and lost touch with her in high school and at NC State. However, when I was walking on campus that summer of '97 and saw the flyer about Kristen on a phone poll, I was totally astonished. Until something like this actually happens to you or someone you know, you think it would never happen to you. I pray for the Modaferri family often and I wish I had looked into this website before now. However, I want you to know that I will keep a picture of Kristen at my desk at work and I am going to order a cookbook to help with the search costs. Honestly, I cannot relate to how you're feeling, but please remember that everything happens for a reason. I will continue to pray for Kristen's return and for your family as you deal with this each day. In God's love, Jamie (Carriker) Money

Dear family, and yes, we are all family... I am a Park Scholar, class of 2003. It may be difficult to convey to you since I never had the privilage of knowing Kristen, that we (as Parks, as people, as family) still feel a great loss in Kristen. I would have known her in person, but in a way I feel as if I do. Through the beautiful recounts of her life from my classmates, from the stories of my best friend who used to live in Charlotte and act in plays with Kristen, from the legislation that may help so many more future children lost... she has been a part of my life. As long as people keep hearing the stories, and as long as her situation is able to help the lives of other people, your daughter (our sister) will never be lost. We will make sure that her spirit, love, and direction are never lost and always kept close to our heart and prayers. May God continue to bless you all...

I keep praying every night that theywill find this beautiful angel and bring her back home. I often wonder how parents survive an ordeal like this but I thank God that he has strengthened you enough to keep searching your loving daughter. I wish I could could go straight out there and find Kristen and bring her home to you. Continue to update me on her. Good luck and God Bless the family and all her friends. Dear Modafferis-This is excellent news!! Congress OKs Clearinghouse for Missing Adults Establishes Database for Older Teens, Grown-ups Oct. 27, 2000 WASHINGTON (AP) -- People who need help finding missing adults and older teenagers would have somewhere to turn under a bill passed by Congress. The legislation, approved by the Senate by voice vote on Thursday, authorizes the creation of a national clearinghouse for missing adults, similar to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. It also sets up a national database for tracking missing adults who are in danger because of their age or diminished mental capacity or when foul play is suspected. The House passed the measure last week. It now goes to President Clinton for his signature. 18-year-old disappeared The bill was introduced after 18-year-old Kristen Modafferi of Charlotte, N.C., disappeared in San Francisco in 1997. "When her panicked parents called the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, they heard the unbelievable words 'I am sorry, we cannot help you,'" said Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., sponsor of the bill. "They were shocked to discover that because Kristen was 18, the center could not place her picture and story into its national database, or offer any assistance whatsoever." Kristen's 18th birthday was only three weeks before she disappeared, said Rep. Nicholas Lampson, D-Texas, chairman and founder of the Congressional Caucus for Missing and Exploited Children. "A congressionally authorized clearinghouse for missing adults is necessary to assist people like Kristen's parents," he said. "I do not want to look into the faces of any more parents whose grown-up children are missing or some place where they should not be. The tragedy is too difficult to live with." The bill also directs the attorney general to issue grants to public agencies or nonprofit private organizations so they can assist in locating the missing grown-ups.

Mike, obviously you are new here to have asked this question of the Modafferi's. The answer to YOUR question was addressed 3 years ago and the answer is a resounding YES! Sometimes our Lord does not answer us in the language WE wish to hear. But he does answer us in HIS own time. That time is not your's nor mine, but HIS time. Patience, love and trust will provide us with the answer HE wishes us to hear. Mike, you asked a very good question. And in GOD's time HE will answer us. Please do not presume otherwise. And your prayers and so very appreciated. Yours in Christ Jesus and Holy Father God, +++ Sylvia Have you asked the Lord where she is??? mike USA - Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at 08:49:00 (EDT)

I am so sorry that you and your family are going through something so painful. But you are not alone. God is with you and so are people like me.....if only in thought and prayer. Kristen is such a beautiful girl...she reminds me of my own daughter. And I can only imagine the tremendous pain and frustration you are feeling. Just know that I will pray for her safe return and will put her on our prayer list at church. May God's comfort be with you all. And may He take very good care of this special young woman. Kristen and I became friends in spring semester design fundamentals at NC State. We went to an art/design opening at Duke one night. On the way to the opening, she spoke of her plans to go to San Francisco for the summer. We didn't know each other too well, but I can tell you that I've never met another person with even a hint of her brand of imagination. With that it is safe to say that wherever she is, she just makes it that much better. She is worth fighting for.
